A woman who for some reason had allegedly run into the path of a vehicle last night, is now dead as a result of the injuries she had suffered, and the police are now trying to identify her.
According to police spokesman Superintendent Jairam Ramlakhan, the unidentified woman allegedly ran into the path of motor car PRR 6071 at around 10pm last night, while the vehicle was proceeding west along the Goedverwagting, East Coast of Demerara public road.
It remains unclear as to whether the woman had deliberately or had mistakenly ended up in the vehicle’s path. And the only witness seems to be the driver.
However, police say that the woman was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where she died some five hours later without regaining consciousness.
With no form of identification on her person, the lawmen are now trying to determine her identity. The only thing that seems obvious about the dead woman is that she is an Indo Guyanese, possibly in her mid-thirties.
The car which fatally hit her was said to be driven by a man who hails from Thomas Street, Kitty.
He has since been taken into custody to assist with investigations, which has so far revealed that he was not intoxicated at the time of the incident.
