A 15-year-old lad is now in a critical condition after a being involved in an accident along the Vryheid Public road, West Canje, in the ancient county on Sunday.

The accident victim has been identified as Oknowie Fing, who resides at Lot 36-39 Stanleytown, New Amsterdam.

The Guyana Guardian understands that just about noon on the fateful day of the accident, the teenager was riding a bicycle in a westerly direction, on the northern side of the Vryheid Public road, when he emerged from behind a parked vehicle, and into the path of an oncoming Car.

As a result, the lad crashed head-on into the front of motor car PSS 217, which was allegedly driven by a Marlon Crandon.

The loud impact of the collision immediately attracted the attention of several persons in the area, who quickly rushed to the scene and saw the victim on the roadway.

Eyewitnesses have also told this publication that the victim appeared to have sustained multiple injuries to the upper part of his body, but mostly to the head

He was immediately rushed to the New Amsterdam Hospital, but was subsequently transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.

Up to press time, the teen was said to be in a critical condition at the GPHC.

Senior Officer and Divisional Traffic Chief Timothy Williams have since confirmed that the driver is in custody, and is assisting with the investigations.
