The new Michelin star in Malaga, the Blossom restaurant, has been forced to close its doors and cancel its reservations after the fire that the establishment suffered this Wednesday, which in just a few hours burned down the restaurant.

The fire would have started shortly before 4:00 in the morning, explains the chef of Blossom, the Argentine chef based in Malaga, Emiliano Schobert, still in shock.

The smoke coming out of the building alerted the neighbors on Strachan street, where the restaurant is located, and they were the ones who notified the Emergency Service 112 Andalucía, which activated the Fire Department, Local Police, and National Police.

Around 5:00 am, a call from the police informing him of what was happening woke up the chef of Blossom, who confirmed to EFE that at that time they were already closed and that there was neither staff nor customers in the restaurant.

Pending more specific information from technicians and experts, all signs point to a short circuit inside the bathroom ceiling as the cause of the fire that quickly spread without causing personal injuries, but resulting in material damage, Schobert reports.

The fact that it started in the middle of the night and on a rarely busy street at that hour prevented a greater tragedy, but it also meant that someone noticed before the restaurant was engulfed in flames, the chef points out.

Without electricity, without water, and with the premises destroyed, now it's time to assess the damage and start the reconstruction, although “the future is uncertain,” comments the chef of Blossom, who just a few months ago was recognized with a Michelin star.

“It has certainly been a blow,” laments Schobert, who, with the recognition in November from the prestigious red guide, has seen a surge in reservations that he is now forced to cancel due to the circumstances.
