Two gunmen on motorcycles attacked and robbed a policeman from Plaisance last night, and fled with his gold chain along with other valuables.

According to the police, the victim who hails from Victoria Road in Plaisance was standing on the roadway at Britain Street in the same village when two men approached him on a motor cycle, brandishing handguns.

One of the men then dismounted from the motor cycle and proceeded to gun-but the policeman to his head before relieving him of a gold chain valued at $220,000, along with other valuables.

The gunman then quickly rejoined his accomplice on the motorcycle and then sped away.

However, after the attack, the policeman alerted his colleagues at the Sparendaam Police Station who responded immediately, resulting in the arrest of one of the suspects, who have since denied being one of the robbers.

None of the stolen items or any weapon was recovered from the suspect.

The police are investigating.
