Just one day after an accident in the Mahaica/ Mahaicony area had taken the lives of two people in a car crash, a teenage cyclist has met the same fate after he allegedly rode into the path of a minibus last night.

According to the police, the deceased, 17-year-old Ricardo James of 12 Recess Village, Mahaicony, ECD, was riding east against the incoming traffic along the southern carriageway at Recess, while a minibus, BTT 5273, was heading towards him in a westerly direction.

While that in itself was already dangerous manoeuvring on the roadway, the 59-year-old driver of the minibus, (whose name has not been disclosed), told police that the cyclist turned north into his path, and which resulted in the bus hitting him.

In the process, the front wheel of the cycle was severed from the rest of its structure, while the cyclist was thrown unto the roadway.

He was subsequently picked up and rushed to the Mahaicony Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

According to the police, the driver was taken into custody and a breathalyzer test was done, which showed that the driver was not intoxicated at the time of the accident.
