Jorge Martínez, the frontman of the legendary rock band Ilegales, has passed away at the age of 70. The group has indefinitely postponed the tour for their latest album, 'Joven y arrogante', following the diagnosis of cancer last September. The vocalist and guitarist died at the Hospital Universitario Central de Asturias (HUCA) in Oviedo, where he had been hospitalized for several weeks.
In a statement, Ilegales declared the hiatus “con gran pesar”. “Debemos anunciar que todos los conciertos previstos de Ilegales quedan cancelados por un tiempo indefinido debido a problemas de salud que afectan a Jorge Martínez, vocalista, guitarrista y líder de la banda. En los últimos días, la situación se ha complicado más, lo que obliga a detener por completo la actividad en directo para que Jorge pueda someterse a un tratamiento contra un cáncer. La decisión, tan difícil como inevitable, responde únicamente a la necesidad de que Jorge dedique todas sus energías a recuperarse”, the message read.
