Barça is in shock due to the collapse they are experiencing in the league. After having one of the best starts in history, with the best goal-scoring start in its 125 years (55 goals in 16 matches), and dazzling with its fearless and joyful play, culminating in a 0-4 win at the Bernabeu on October 26, Hansi Flick's team has plummeted: in the last seven matches, they have had 2 victories, 2 draws, and 3 losses.
Away from consolidating the game and the results by winning in Madrid with authority, Barcelona has squandered its lead and its credit in these seven league matches (except for the exception of Son Moix).
Four defeats
The Flick team has suffered two consecutive home defeats (against Las Palmas and Leganés); the last time this happened was with Xavi in April of last year, against Real Madrid and Girona
Against Leganés (0-1), they suffered their fourth defeat in the championship, the second consecutive one at the Olímpic Lluís Companys. The last time they didn't win two consecutive home games was in April last year with Xavi on the bench: 0-4 against Real Madrid and 0-0 against Girona. This time, the opponents have been much more modest, Las Palmas (1-2) and Leganés.
The streak that Barça is on (in La Liga; not in the Champions League) is starting to become worrying: they have only earned 8 out of the last 21 points since their victory at the Santiago Bernabeu, meaning they have only managed to win 2 out of the 7 matches, against Espanyol and away at Mallorca.
It has stumbled against theoretically accessible rivals, such as Real Sociedad (1-0) at the beginning of the spiral of poor results, Celta (2-2), Las Palmas (1-2), Betis (2-2), and Leganés (0-1).
Inability to bounce back
Barcelona has not been able to recover from a losing score since August: the five times the opposing team took the lead, the blaugrana team lost
In this period of almost two months since the victory against Real Madrid, when they distanced themselves from the whites by 6 points (now they are 1 point behind, but with one less game than Carlo Ancelotti's team), Barça has been particularly ineffective in comebacks, very vulnerable every time they started losing.
Thus, Flick's team has not been able to come back in a match since August (comebacks against Valencia, 1-2, and Rayo, 1-2). In the five subsequent matches, they never won when the opponent took the lead: Monaco in the Champions League, Osasuna, Real Sociedad, Las Palmas, and Leganés in La Liga.
And the next opponent is Atlético de Madrid (2nd, tied at 38 points), who will visit Montjuïc.
