Former President of the Government Felipe González expressed on Monday, within the framework of the Fórum Europa, his willingness to accompany Venezuelan opposition leader Edmundo González on January 10, the date scheduled for the winner of the presidential elections held on July 28 to take office.
The former President of the Executive made this statement after attending an informative breakfast with Edmundo González organized by Nueva Economía Fórum, where he indicated that the Venezuelan opposition leader is “determined” to go to Venezuela on January 10th to take office as president of the country.
Specifically, when asked if Edmundo González will be in Caracas on January 10, he responded that “it is possible” and that “he is determined”. “If I had to make the decisions, I would take him on a plane as we brought him, I would take him on a plane and I am willing to accompany him,” added the former head of the Executive.
At the same time, when asked about his opinion on the efforts made in Venezuela by former Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, he commented that he does not assess that.
Edmundo González does not rule out “a tour to the United States” in search of support
The opposition leader in Venezuela said that, although he currently has no plans to “undertake any tours to the United States” in search of support, he does not rule it out.
During his speech at the informative breakfast, Edmundo González stated that he will take over the Government “with the support of more than seven million Venezuelans”. “It is the main pillar and foundation of the new Government,” he assured.
When asked about the new Administration of Donald Trump in the United States, the Venezuelan opposition leader explained that he does not have any plans for a tour in the North American country at the moment, but added, “I do not rule out the possibility.”
He thanked former Spanish President Felipe González for asking the Pedro Sánchez government for help with his return to Caracas, less than a month before the inauguration, scheduled for January 10.
He mentioned that he shares “years of friendship” with Felipe González and recalled that he had “the honor” of “taking him to Caracas and bringing him back to his homeland” once.
Edmundo González claimed to be “an official in the service of the State” and “the true reflection of what democratic Venezuela was, full of opportunities, the Venezuela that was for everyone”.
